Pushing on a Skateboard

The first skateboarding move every beginner needs to know is how to push correctly. Pushing is the method of gathering speed while riding your board, and it's a motion you will use on nearly every trick you learn. Once you've learned how to balance yourself while standing on the skateboard, pushing isn't difficult to learn. Dedicate yourself to the learning process and you'll soon be flying around the concrete jungle like a veteran skateboarder.

Instructions

    • 1

Position your front foot over the bolts of the skateboard. Angle your stance outward at 45 degrees. Place your back foot on the tail, perpendicular to the board. Maintain a slight bend in your knees.

    • 2

Shift your weight to your front foot, and lift your back foot straight up off the board. Turn your upper body and place your back foot on the ground.

    • 3

Push against the ground with your back foot to propel the skateboard forward. As you begin this motion, keep your back foot parallel to the board and your leg perpendicular to the ground.

    • 4

Lift your back foot off the ground and step back onto the skateboard. Repeat the pushing motion to gather more speed.
