Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Measure to determine the size of the wood needed to fit across the width of your treadmill. Add at least 6 inches to this measurement, depending on the surface area needed to accommodate your laptop, papers, cup or water bottle.
-
2
Buy precut wood or cut it yourself according to the measurements. You may also want to paint or varnish the board.
-
3
Measure and cut wood molding to fit around the outside edge of the treadmill desktop. Attach the molding with finishing nails. The molding, which prevents laptops from sliding if the treadmill is set on an incline, is optional.
-
4
Place the board atop the treadmill and center it above the handrails. Use a pencil to mark the appropriate placement for the brackets that will secure the desktop to the handrails.
-
5
Pre-drill holes for the screws, using your markings as a guide. Attach the brackets connected to the U-shaped hooks to the bottom of the board with four screws. The pre-drilled holes should make it easier to tighten the screws.
-
6
Place your desktop on the treadmill by situating the U-shaped hooks so that they fit over the handrails.
