How to Do the Move The Butcher

The Butcher, also called the Barbed Wire or the Corkscrew, is a basic wrestling take down move. It isn't hard to pull off, but it's best to practice on mats that are meant to absorb impact, until you're familiar with it. You'll need a partner of course, so that you can practice getting the proper grip and getting used to the weight of a person, as you do the take down.

Stand facing your partner. Bring your left arm inside their right arm, and place your hand on the back of your partner's neck. Take your right hand and grip your partner's left arm just behind the elbow, squeeze at the joining of the tricep muscle.

Step in with your left foot and slide the hand from the back of the neck across the back to just under the armpit, hooking into the muscle there. Bring your right foot to your left and pivot, so that you have hold of your partner in a hug.

Pull your partner towards you and turn to your right, falling to your knees as you turn. Pull your partner down with you. Do this slowly at first, until you're used to the maneuver.

Throw your partner to the ground, continuing the corkscrew motion. Your partner should end up on his back on the ground with your arm around the neck. This position is ideal for putting your partner in a further pin, once you have him down on the mat.
