Equestrian Colleges in Illinois or Missouri

Riding horses and participating in equestrian events is part of life in mid-western United States. When students go off to college it is nice if they can participate in these much loved competitions even when away from home. Illinois and Missouri both have colleges and universities that allow undergraduates on their campuses to continue their equestrian pursuits while pursuing their degrees.

  1. Augustana College

    • Augustana College, located in northwest Illinois, offers an equestrian team through their sports clubs, to their student body. Offered at a facility approximately 20 minutes away in Buffalo, Iowa, they have both English and western Teams that practice weekly and compete through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.

    Southern Illinois University at Carbondale

    • Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, located in a small town in the southern tip of Illinois, has a forty member equestrian team that boasts of competition medals in both stock and hunt teams. Riders of all levels are encouraged to join and the school provides all horses, and tack to its members.

    Northwest Missouri State University

    • Northwest Missouri State University, located in the extreme northwestern section of Missouri, has an equestrian sports team organized for their students. The Equestrian team promotes equestrian sporting activities and allows members to share this common interest while attending their college.

    Truman State University

    • Truman State University, located in northeastern Missouri boast a prize-winning equestrian team. Their team, under the guidance of Coach Emily Costello, practices five days a week, and in the 2010 season brought home trophies in both the hunt and stock team divisions.

    Washington University in St. Louis

    • Washington University in St. Louis, a small campus in St. Louis, Missouri of 6,000 full-time undergraduate students has a small equestrian team available to their students. They offer weekly riding lessons and participate in three shows per semester.
