Cobra Tandem Kayak Specifications

Cobra Kayaks makes sit-on-top kayaks that feel stable and paddle fast. Its line ranges from surf and wave skis to diving and fishing kayaks. Cobra markets the Cobra Tandem model towards the fishing, diving, camping and general recreation market segments. Its tandem design allows two paddlers to socialize more easily than while paddling two single models.
  1. Specifications

    • From end to end, the Cobra Tandem kayak measures 12 feet 6 inches. When combined with its weight of 57 lbs., the short length results in quick maneuverability. If the two paddlers work together, they can turn this short kayak 360 degrees using several sweep strokes. At its widest point, the tandem measures 36 inches wide. Although this width may seem unusual for a kayak, the extra width increases stability, which helps anglers and divers maintain balance in the boat. Entry-level recreational paddlers won't feel tippy in this kayak.

    Camping Features

    • The Tandem features enough deck space for up to five hatches. The hatches provide access into the kayak's interior. For kayak campers, this provides storage for camping gear, such as a backpacking stove, a tent and sleeping bags. Because the boat measures only slightly more than 12 feet, campers who pack heavier than a backpacker will find the storage space tight. The tandem has a total carrying capacity of 600 lbs., which include gear and paddlers.

    Outfitting

    • The Cobra Tandem also includes additional outfitting features. The bungee cords hold loose gear both behind the stern paddler and in front of the bow paddler. The backrests provide plenty of back support and allow paddlers to lean back while fishing or when just floating along. At each end, an end toggle, which is a plastic handle, makes it easy to transport the boat between your vehicle and the water.

    Material

    • Cobra makes the Tandem using a super-linear polyethylene, a durable plastic that also used to make whitewater kayaks. During the rotomolding manufacturing process, workers add powdered plastic to a metal mold shaped like the kayak. They heat the mold while rotating it. When the plastic melts, it coats the mold evenly. Once cooled, workers remove the newly formed kayak from the mold. You can repair minor damage to a Cobra Tandem by using a plastic welder. When the kayak gets too old, you can recycle it.
