Washburne Kayak Cart Instructions

When you are kayaking and have to portage, it is nice to have a little relief from the carry. The Washburne Kayak Cart serves this purpose, and packs down small enough to fit in a kayak storage hatch between portages. A single-strap system slips over the kayak to snug it in place. The result is a less labor-intensive portage of the craft.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the strap on the top of the cart. The strap uses a slider with a black plastic lever. Pull the lever up to open it and slide the straps fully open.

    • 2

Place the cart next to the back of the kayak. Lift the kayak stern up and onto the cart cradle. Push the cart up, no more than a third the length of the kayak, from the stern.

    • 3

Slide the straps together and pull tight. Push down on the black plastic lever to lock the straps in place. Lift the front of the kayak at the carrying handle and push or pull the kayak using the wheels on the cart as the fulcrum.

Open the straps and remove the kayak from the cart when the portage is finished. Fold the two wheels in toward each other to collapse the cart into a smaller shape. Store the cart in a storage hatch or on the deck bungees of the kayak until needed for another portage.
