How to Throw Concrete

Throwing concrete away is often a necessary part of a construction or similar project. But handling heavy materials improperly can be a dangerous proposition. Along with throwing out the concrete, you can easily throw out your back if proper care isn't taken. There are ways to properly throw a heavy object to prevent injury to yourself. Like other heavy objects, concrete needs to be picked up correctly and a certain form should be used upon completing the throw.

Instructions

  1. Pick up the Concrete

    • 1

Squat down to pick up the concrete using your legs and not your back. Your legs are stronger and will be able to support the weight of the concrete more safely than your back.

    • 2

Cradle the concrete block in both arms with the weight distributed evenly between them.

    • 3

Raise yourself slowly upward using your legs until you are in a completely upright position.

    Throw the Concrete

    • 4

Hold the concrete in your arms just below your waistline.

    • 5

Shift the concrete backward and to the side toward the stronger, more-dominant side of your body. If you are right-handed, for example, the right side of your body will be your dominant side. Twist your body at the waist while keeping your feet planted firmly facing forward.

    • 6

Use your dominant are to thrust the concrete forward in the direction where you want to throw it. Use your less-dominant arm to guide your throw. Use your core strength, not your back, to power the throw.

    • 7

Release the concrete, allowing it to go airborne at the apex of your thrust to complete the throw.
