Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of your SUV's back interior and cut the 1-by-4 inch lumber to that length. Determine how many bicycles you want to haul, and divide the board into that many segments. Mark the segments with a marker.

    • 2

Measure the inside width of your fork (where the axle attaches) and add 2 inches to each side. Based on this measurement, cut metal strapping for each bike you want to haul.

    • 3

Use pliers to bend 2 inches on either end of the straps at 90 degree angles, so that you are left with "C" shaped pieces of metal. Drill one hole in either end and two in the back of the "C." Use the wood screws to mount the metal pieces in the center of each section you marked on the board.

Slide the quick releases through the holes in the ends of the metal. To use the rack, slide the board into the rear of your SUV. Take the front wheel off of your bike and secure your front fork in the metal "C"s by clamping the quick releases shut on the fork ends. Let the rear wheels of the bikes sit on a sheet in the SUV's middle section.
