West Michigan Snowmobile Trails

Western Michigan provides hours of entertainment for outdoor enthusiasts. When the snow begins to fly, snowmobilers flock to one of Michigan's state parks. Campgrounds offer maintained snowmobile trails open to the public for nothing more than a vehicle parking permit. According to the Michigan Snowmobile Association, Michigan features more than 6,000 trails throughout the state.
  1. Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park

    • Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park offers snowmobilers nearly 100 miles of trails to enjoy. The 92-mile section of trail between Cadillac and Comstock Park is mostly hard-packed gravel, but the sections between Reed City and Big Rapids and Rockford and Belmont feature paved asphalt. The trail flows through the countryside, forests and cities along the way.

      With trailheads in Cadillac, Big Rapids and Belmont, find food and lodging options readily available in each of these locations. A Michigan State Park vehicle pass is not required to enter this park, which has no facilities for visitors.

    Yankee Springs Recreation Area

    • Yankee Springs Recreation Area, once hunted by the Algonquin Indians, offers 5,200 acres of rugged terrain to explore on snowmobiles. The park has seven trails totaling nearly 30 miles. Yankee Springs offers three unique areas of interest for visitors: Devil's Soupbowl, a glacially carved kettle formation, The Pines and Graves Hill Overlook. Access all three areas from the extensive trail system. A Michigan State Park vehicle permit is required for entrance to the park.

    Duck Lake State Park

    • Duck Lake State Park in Muskegon County is a 728-acre park that extends from the north shore of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan. The trail covers a variety of terrain, ranging from hardwood forests to open brush, with 1/2 mile of paved trail. Duck Lake State Park is a day-use park with no camping or restroom facilities. A Michigan State Park vehicle permit is required for entrance to the park.

    Kal-Haven Trail State Park

    • Kal-Haven Trail State Park, a former railroad corridor, offers a 34-mile trail on hard-packed limestone that connects Kalamazoo and South Haven. The trail winds through forest areas, farm lands and along rivers and streams and offers both a camelback and covered bridge for exploration. The trail is maintained by Van Buren County, and the county requires a small use fee for up-keep of the trail system.
