Snowmobile Trails in Allegheny, PA

Stretching 500 miles across north-central Pennsylvania and into western Maryland are the Allegheny Mountains. The "Alleghenies" are home to small villages, scenic roads, nature trails and many options for year-round outdoor recreation. In the winter months, outdoor adventurists flock to the mountains and the surrounding valleys to snowmobile.
  1. Blue Knob State Park

    • Blue Knob State Park is in the northwestern tip of Bedford County and features eight miles of snowmobile trails. The snowmobile routes are open daily beginning in December, after hunting season. Average yearly snowfall in the area is about 12 feet, which makes it ideal for snowmobiling. Blue Knob State Park features the mountain peak Blue Knob, the second highest peak in the state. Riders will also experience streams, mountain scenery and solitude.

    Poe Paddy State Park

    • Marked gravel roads in Poe Paddy State Park are open for snowmobile riders, as well as motor vehicles, after hunting season in December. All-terrain vehicles, however, are prohibited from using the roads. The park is located near Bald Eagle State Forest and near the city of Milroy, in a valley of the Allegheny Mountains. Additional features include hiking trails and streams for fishing.

    Shawnee State Park

    • Eleven miles of the 4,000-acre Shawnee State Park, located in the valley of the Allegheny Mountains, have been set aside for snowmobilers. The park is near the town of Bedford and also features 16 miles of hiking trails, the 451-acre Shawnee Lake and 3,000 acres of land for hunting. The designated snowmobile trails are located on the eastern side of the park. The trails are open only to those with registered snowmobiles.
