Government Sporting Grants

Sports bring communities together and help younger generations stay involved. With sports being such a positive benefit to society, the federal and state governments dedicate resources in the form of financial grants to help communities, organizations, the private sector and nonprofits develop and improve sports facilities and programs.
  1. Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant

    • The Carol M. White Physical Education Program provides grants to community-based organizations (CBO) and local education agencies (LEAs) to provide beneficial physical education programs for children. The programs must benefit children in grades K through 12 to be eligible. Grants may be used to buy any equipment or support needed for successful physical activities.

    Shooting Sports Access Campaign Grant

    • The Shooting Sports Access Campaign Grant was created by the government to help promote safer recreational sports activities. This grant was also intended to teach people to respect nature and reduce the amount of destruction occurring to natural habitats. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with a 501c3 status. The lowest grant awarded was $20,000, and the largest named grant was $100,000.

    Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission Grants

    • Another government grant is offered by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission for Hennepin Youth Sports Programs. This agency screens and approves grants to help community youth programs develop, renovate and advance sports programs to benefit children. This commission feels it is important to get children involved in community activities. Awarded grants have ranged from as low as $10,000 to as high as $235,488.

    Women’s Sports Foundation Grants

    • The Women’s Sports Foundation, with the support of Michelle Obama and the President’s Council, provides grants to promote female sports. These grants help low-income girls and women achieve sports dreams by awarding organizations that provide underserved females ages 8 to 18 opportunities to get involved in athletics. This foundation awarded more than $1,000,000 in 2008 alone.
