How to Build an Arrow Launcher

Arrow launchers can be made a variety of ways, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Complicated launchers tend to have multiple moving parts, which will wear down and break over time, while simple launchers tend to be more robust, yet still effective with a little practice. History has shown that some simple designs, such as an Atlatl, can be very effective. It can be produced using commonly found materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a line down the center of the wooden plank, lengthwise. Then draw a line perpendicular to it, 1 inch from an end.

    • 2

Carve a notch in the end of your wood plank where you drew the second line. It will hold the nock of your arrow. Do this so the arrow shaft will be able to rest on the length of the plank with the tip of the arrow extending just beyond the plank.

    • 3

Carve a trough along the line you drew lengthwise to allow for the shaft of the arrow to rest in it.

    • 4

Launch the arrow by holding the wooden plank with one hand at the end opposite the nock. With your arm fully extended backwards, throw the arrow by flicking the launcher as you rotate your arm forward in a throwing motion. The extra length of the launcher provides exponential power to your arm, allowing you to launch the arrow with much greater speed.
