How to Adjust the Bow String
Bows are used in archery and bow hunting, and are powered by elasticity. When a bow is drawn, energy is stored in the bow and acts as a spring when the string is released, propelling the arrow forward. The tuning of the string is important, as it affects the speed and accuracy of the arrow. Adjusting a bow is difficult, and many owners prefer to let an expert take care of the tuning.
Things You'll Need
- Allen wrench
- Spring scale with a max-weight slider
- Large nail
Instructions
-
-
1
Check to see if there is a locking nut on the back of the bow. If it has one, loosen it.
-
2
Tighten both hex bolts on the upper and lower limbs of the bow with the allen wrench. This raises the draw weight to a maximum.
-
3
Loosen the hex bolts slowly until you reach your desired draw weight. Ensure that both bolts are loosened equally.
-
4
Hang the scale from a large nail. Hook the center of the bow string onto the scale and pull it hard. At full draw, the scale pointer will bounce upward, but the slider will remain at the draw weight.
-
5
Tighten the locking nut if necessary.
