How to Mount a Basketball Backboard & Goal to the Top of the Garage

Basketball is a sport that you can enjoy as a spectator, as a teammate or simply as part of a pick-up game outside the family home. You can set up basketball goals a few different ways to enjoy playing at home, such as planting a basketball post into the ground or weighing it down with sand or gravel to serve as a free-standing method. You can also attach and mount the basketball backboard, net and goal to a wall or on top of your garage outside your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a ladder in front of your garage in order to place the brackets. Set the height that you want the goal to be using a measuring tape, then mark off the area with chalk or something that can be easily seen. Measure where you want to drill holes for the mounting brackets and mark off the areas. Drill the holes for the mounting brackets, then insert the bracket anchors and the mounting brackets.

    • 2

Secure the mounting brackets according to the manufacturer's instructions, as there will be nuts and bolts that you will need to firmly set in place before proceeding to mount the backboard, goal and net.

    • 3

Attach the backboard to the mounting brackets and securely place in the nuts and bolts with the drill. Keep yourself as steady as you can, and if possible, get assistance from someone else to help you attach it. Once the backboard and goal are firmly in place, attach the net.
