How to Take Off Mongoose Pegs

Designed for BMX riding, a Mongoose bicycle will often include a pair of axle pegs, positioned at the front and rear of the frame. Each peg attaches to one end of the wheel's axle. Together, axle pegs give you an additional platform for your feet. Before removing any of the pegs, determine whether the pegs are threaded or non-threaded. A Threaded peg twists onto the tip of the axle and has a pair of mounting holes through the side of the peg. A non-threaded peg slides onto the tip of the axle and is held in place with the axle nut.

Instructions

  1. Threaded Axle Pegs

    • 1

Insert a Phillips screwdriver through the holes in the sides of the Moongoose bicycle peg. The screwdriver should be able to slide comfortably through the holes. If it does not, the screwdriver is too thick. Use a thinner screwdriver.

    • 2

Use both ends of the screwdriver as a lever, and rotate the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the peg.

    • 3

Continue to rotate the screwdriver until the peg comes free of the axle.

    Non-Threaded Axle Pegs

    • 4

Attach a 15 mm socket to the tip of a socket wrench.

    • 5

Place the 15 mm socket against the 15 mm axle nut inside the hollow of the Moongoose bicycle peg.

    • 6

Rotate the socket wrench counterclockwise to loosen the axle nut. Continue to loosen the axle nut until it comes free of the tip of the axle.

    • 7

Slide the peg free of the tip of the Mongoose bicycle axle.
