How to Get Recruited by a College Lacrosse Team

If you are a member of a high school lacrosse team, chances are good that you dream about playing on the college level. However, as lacrosse becomes more and more popular, it is becoming more difficult for college coaches to identify the best players for their teams. Follow these steps to increase your chances of getting recruited by a college lacrosse team.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep getting better at your game. This might seem obvious, but it is the best way to ensure that you will be a valuable addition to a college lacrosse team.

    • 2

Identify some college teams that you might want to play for. If you are a high school sophomore or junior, write to the coach and tell him that you are interested in playing for his team. Find out what camps he recommends that you attend to become more skilled at lacrosse. Of course, you can also do this as a high school senior, but earlier is generally better.

    • 3

Attend a lacrosse camp that is frequented by college recruiters. Rather than focusing on building skills, most recruiting camps focus only on games. They are attended by college coaches who are looking for promising players. Your high school coach can probably provide you with more information about these camps.

Go to a lacrosse camp at a college you are interested in attending. In many cases, the head coach of the college team will be running the camp. If you can't attend the camp of your choice, write to the coach of the team and ask for recommendations for alternate camps.

Collect some resources. Letters of recommendation from your high school coaches and newspaper articles that mention your name and your team will be helpful. Some players also save videotapes of themselves in action. Wait until a college coach expresses interest in you before sending this information.
