How to Make Your Own Football Team Game

Playing a casual game of football is very easy to accomplish under a variety of circumstances. If you wish to play a pick-up game with your friends, you have many different options depending on how many people you have, how competitive you want to play, and a number of other factors. Football is a versatile sport that can be played and modified depending on the situation.

Instructions

Calculate the number of people wanting to play in the game. If you have more than 22 people willing to play (sometimes the case in intramural sports for college students) then you might want to play a game similar to National Football League rules. In the NFL, 11 players are used on each side of the ball.

Figure out what level of competition everyone is willing to play. If the majority are not interested in playing a full game of tackle football, perhaps playing "two-hand touch" football would work. Instead of tackling, a player is considered "down" when an opposing player is touched by the defense with 2 hands.

Analyze the skill level of the players to see if you need to play with just one quarterback. It is common for one player to be designated as "all-time quarterback," who plays that position for both teams. This is common when one player is very talented at that position and no one else feels comfortable competing as the other quarterback.

Modify some NFL rules depending on your field conditions. Most of the time, you won't find a field that is 120 yards long to play on, nor will you want to run that much if you don't have a full team. One rule that is often modified in recreational football is the first-down rule. In the NFL, you need 10 yards for a first down, which gives the team with the ball four more snaps of the ball. This is very hard to rule in smaller games, so a common change is to use the "2-completion rule." With this rule, making 2 passing completions within 4 "downs" results in a first down.
