Goalie Camps in New Jersey

Goalies have the task of defending their nets and preventing intrusion. Thus, goalies are integral to ensuring a victory for their team because of their duty to prevent scores. Some of the best training for young goalies can be obtained through instructional camps led by professionals. In New Jersey, there are a number of these camps geared toward young hockey players. These camps are offered via summer programs as well as year-round skating centers.
  1. Ice Vault Camp

    • The Ice Vault Camp, located in Wayne, New Jersey, provides youth summer hockey camps for individuals between the ages of 10 and 17 years old. Young goalies can enroll in the "Goalie and Shooters Track" course, a three-day camp in August, taught by legendary players Chico Resch and David Clarkson. Goalies are assigned groups based on age and not skill level. The camp is designed to teach goalies the following: how to stand as a goalie, how to skate as a goalie, how to communicate as a goalie and how to position gloves and pads.

    NJ Hockey Stop

    • The NJ Hockey Stop, located in Randolph, New Jersey, provides shooting and goalie instruction for younger and older players. Goalie camps typically begin in August and last four days. Under its Hockey Stop Goaltending Academy, young goalies are taught the fundamentals of goaltending in addition to many of the techniques used by National Hockey League players today. At the conclusion of camp, goalies receive a scouting evaluation that is similar to those used in professional hockey. The camps is taught by professional goalie instructor David Solomon and professional scout Walt Seaman.

    Ice Land

    • Located in Hamilton, New Jersey, the Ice Land is open seven days a week, year-round. Youth hockey players can receive instruction in skating and goaltending in addition to playing in the youth leagues. There are two divisions for the youth leagues based on age (9 years and up and 13 years and up) and player ability. The youth hockey program is directed by Chris Barcless, a former Princeton University men's hockey coach. Under his direction, players learn the fundamentals of hockey in addition to maintaining sportsmanship and a great attitude. Among the courses offered for young goalies are goaltending power skating, goaltending theory and psychology and off-ice goaltending instruction.
