Taping a Lacrosse Long Pole

A lacrosse long pole, also known as a defensive stick, measures 6 feet long and can be more difficult to handle than the standard lacrosse stick. Depending on the type of stick and glove combination you have, you may find it hard to grip the stick. Taping your long pole in commonly used parts of the stick can help you better grip and control the stick. There is no right or wrong way to tape a lacrosse stick. It's about finding what works for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the lacrosse stick of dirt and grime. This will help the tape bond with the stick. Make sure it's completely dry.

    • 2

Determine where you want the tape to be on the lacrosse handle. Common areas include the bottom of the stick and around the half-way point where your hands normally are positioned when passing or shooting the ball.

    • 3

Apply a few pieces of tape across the end cap of the stick. These have a habit of falling off and many players choose to tape these.

    • 4

Tape the stick in a spiral pattern over the end cap pieces of tape. Add as many layers of tape that still allow you to feel comfortable while holding the stick. Some players choose to add multiple layers near the bottom of the stick while others do this near the point of the stick they commonly use to shoot or pass the ball.
