How to Adjust Skis

Adjusting your ski bindings can be challenging if you haven't done it before. However, people who have bought used skis, had a change in weight or have become more experienced on the slopes will need to make an alteration to their ski bindings in order to stay safe on the hills. Adjustments can be made with household tools.

Calculate your DIN number for the type of skis you own. The DIN number is a combination of your weight, height, ski level and age. This number will vary from brand to brand so you will need to contact a ski shop or the manufacturers to find a DIN chart. Double check your DIN number to make sure it is accurate.

Use a screwdriver to turn the front and back bindings to your DIN number. You should be able to do this with a flathead screwdriver. Watch the numbers rotate on a dial as you turn the screwdriver. Do this on both skis.

Test your skis. Your bindings should be tight enough that you don't pop out of your skis whenever you make a turn, but they should be loose enough to let go if you fall. This prevents injury. If you need to make a correction, you can loosen them by lowering the number or tighten them by raising it.
