Skiwear Advice

Wearing the appropriate skiwear will protect you from cold weather and injury, so choose your skiwear carefully. Most ski lodges or ski shops carry a wide range of skiwear designed for your comfort and safety.
  1. Helmet

    • Dr. Mark Krinock, an avid skier and neurosurgeon, believes that wearing a helmet while skiing will protect you from the head injuries that are one of the most harmful risks of falling. Always wear a tight-fitting helmet made specifically for skiing when hitting the slopes.

    Goggles

    • Avoid being blinded by snow and sun by wearing well-fitting ski goggles that also fit under your helmet. All About Vision, a website dedicated to providing important information about caring for your eyes, recommends that you choose dark tints, polarized lenses or mirror-coated goggle lenses for sunny days or rose-colored lenses for cloudy days.

    Clothing

    • Wear layers when you ski so you can adjust your clothing to the temperature throughout the day. Winter-Sports.com recommends that you wear long underwear or long-johns that wick moisture away from your skin as a base layer and also that you avoid slippery fabrics for your outermost layers so you do not slide if you fall in the snow.
