How to Apply Ski Wax

While many people will get their skis waxed at the start of the season, serious skiers know that it is important to wax almost every time you ski. Snow temperatures change, and the snow crystals also change, and different waxes help you get more out of your skis. Additionally, wax wears off after just a few times on the slopes, so reapplying is key to maintaining performance. With the right gear, it is easy to wax skis at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Clamp the skis to the ski grips on the waxing bench with the bases facing up.

    • 2

Preheat the waxing iron for five minutes.

    • 3

Hold the wax against the waxing iron above the ski and drizzle a small amount of wax on the ski base from tip to tail. Alternatively, you can rub the wax onto the ski base directly.

    • 4

Iron the wax into the ski base from tip to tail, moving the iron smoothly over the base.

    • 5

Allow the wax to cool for at least two hours.

    • 6

Scrape off excess wax with the plastic scraper. Hold the scraper at a 45-degree angle and move it from tip to tail, removing as much of the wax as possible to leave a smooth, fine layer of wax on the base.

    • 7

Buff out the waxed base with either the nylon hair brush or the buffing pad.
