DC Snowboard Boot Break-in Procedures

DC Sports makes a range of products for snowboarding. Among these products are its snowboard boots. Snowboard boots are made to be tight fitting, nearly uncomfortable, particularly right out of the box. To get maximum support with your DC boots, break the boots in before heavy use. Even when the boots are broken in, expect the boots to feel tight.
  1. Around the House

    • After you first get your new DC snowboard boots, wear them around the house for small periods of time. Wear the same pair of socks you normally wear when riding. It is not recommended you ride with more than one pair of socks as this leads to constriction and reduced circulation in the feet. Put on the boots and lace them up with your socks on. Wear them for 15 to 30 minutes at a time to begin molding them to your feet.

    On the Board

    • Another way to break the boots in at home is to put your snowboard down on the floor, and put your new DC boots on, again with one pair of socks. Get into the bindings and tighten them like you do when ready to ride. Lean forward and push the toes against the toe-box for 30 seconds. Repeat this several times to begin getting the boots ready for hard use.

    On the Slopes

    • During the first week of use, go out for shorter runs. Ride a run then go into the slope-side building and loosen the straps. Take your feet out and then back in. Tighten the laces and go for another run. This breaks the boot in and keeps your feet ready for action during the initial break-in period.

    Storage

    • When you get back home with your new DC boots, pull the liners out of the shell and stuff the toe-box and heal of the shell with socks. This helps keep the shell in its original form, with no shrinkage or retraction after the day of riding. Stuff the liner with socks as well, to keep the foam ready for your feet and without shrinking down. Store the stuffed boots in a dark, cool area like a closet or basement, providing the basement or closet is dry.
