The Republic of Macedonia is located in the Balkan Peninsula of Southeastern Europe. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, there was a large wave of immigration into Australia. Initially established as organizations to foster ethnic pride and solidarity, Macedonian soccer clubs eventually removed their ethnic titles and became powerful teams that helped transform soccer into one of the most popular sports in Australia.

      Stirling Lions Soccer Club, founded in 1971,was originally known as the West Perth Macedonia Club. They are one of the most powerful soccer clubs in Western Australia with six Premier League Championships. Former members are World Cup players such as Robert Zabica, and Stan Lazaridis.
