How to Take Out Rubber Spikes on the Nike Zoom Waffle Racer 6

The Nike Zoom Waffle Racer VI is a lightweight cross country running shoe. The shoe is known for comfort, durability and a competitive price. While many track shoes come equipped with metal spikes to aid runners in gripping the road surface, the Zoom Waffle Racer 6 does not. The shoe instead comes with four rubber spikes near the front. You can remove these rubber lugs and replace them with metal spikes by using either the spike wrench included with the shoe or a spike wrench from a third party manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean all of the dirt and grass off of the shoes by tapping them together. Use a paper towel to clean out the shoes, especially around the rubber spikes if more cleaning is needed.

    • 2

Push the spike wrench over one of the four rubber spikes. Gently turn the wrench counterclockwise until you can feel some resistance from the spike.

    • 3

Apply more pressure to the wrench and continue to twist counterclockwise until the spike comes loose from the shoe. Set the spike in a plastic bag so that you can reattach it later if desired.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 2 to 3 for each of the four spikes. Insert metal cross country spikes and twist them in clockwise with the wrench if you are exchanging the spikes.
