Gift Ideas for Wrestlers

If you have a friend or family member who participates in wrestling, consider getting him a birthday or holiday present that has something to do with wrestling. Whether he is wrestling in middle school, high school, at college or with an eye toward the Olympic team, the basic necessities of training and competition are the same.
  1. Gym Membership

    • Like boxers, it is imperative that wrestlers stay in tip-top shape. Wrestlers are grouped by weight classes so one wrestler does not have a weight advantage over another. Therefore, wrestlers spend a lot of time in the gym building muscle and cutting weight to be exactly where they need to be for the match. Offer to purchase a gym membership for the wrestler. If he already has a gym membership, you can simply pay for a number of months so he will not have to incur that expense while training.

    Magazine Subscriptions

    • Wrestling has several magazines that cover the sport. They detail articles about how best to train, how to cut weight, wrestling techniques and maneuvers and cover matches that are occurring around the globe. Wrestling USA and W.I.N. Magazine, offer both online and print editions of their work. Both magazines are published monthly throughout the year.

    Equipment

    • The equipment associated with wrestling is fairly basic. However, with all of that time on the mat, items can wear out with consistent use. Ideas for equipment gifts include singlets, mouth guards helmets, and wrestling shoes. If you are not sure of the size, ask the parent of the wrestler to help you out. Other apparel ideas include warm-up pants, jackets and sweatshirts. If the wrestler belongs to a certain school team, you can also purchase apparel from the school gift shop. Finally, if you are not quite sure what to buy, then you can purchase a gift certificate to a sporting goods store and then he can select his own gift.

    Tickets

    • Purchase tickets to an upcoming wrestling match in the area. High school and collegiate seasons extend from the end of November through early April. Find local colleges and universities in your area and purchase tickets to an event being held nearby. This makes a great gift for a high school student who is thinking of wrestling in college and wants to check out some of the local programs.
