Decoration Ideas for a Wrestling Banquet

As with other end-of-the-year sporting events, a wrestling banquet is an opportunity to honor a wrestling team for its hard work and achievement during the season. Awards for best wrestler, most improved wrestler, team leader and scholar of the team are just a few of the honors that can be bestowed upon wrestlers at a wrestling banquet. Choose decorations that highlight the team's season and make wrestling team members feel good about what they achieved during the year.

  1. Choosing a Theme

    • The first and most important element of your wrestling decoration plan is deciding upon a theme. The simplest theme is one based on your team's colors. Select tablecloths, chairs, balloons and streamers based on the team's colors and decorate the room with them as a base for your banquet decor. Another option is to set an elegant tone with white tablecloths, white chairs, twinkling white lights and candles. Or, get creative and deck the banquet site out like a wrestling mat by cutting mat material for table tops and setting up ropes around tables in the shape of a giant wrestling ring.

    Stage Table Decorations

    • Add glitz and glamour to your wrestling banquet decorations by setting up a table on stage or at the front of the room with all of the trophies that will be handed out at the banquet that night. Set up a display of all the wrestling trophies won by previous teams behind the table on covered boxes so they are elevated and in clear view. Use this technique to connect the current team's successes to the achievements of past teams. Place a large sheet cake decorated like a wrestling mat in the center of the stage table with a congratulatory message to the team on it.

    • Wrestling banquet table centerpieces can be colorful, festive and economical. Tie balloons in your team's colors to a dumbbell and place it at the center of each table. Or, fill a short vase with pom poms in your team's colors. Make silk or real floral arrangements in your team's colors. Purchase toy wrestling rings and fill them with individually wrapped candies that players can eat during the banquet. Set a mug with the team's final record or statistics on it at each seat. Fill the mugs with candy for players and guests to take home. Set a special poem at each seat about success, hard work, determination or perseverance.

    Wall Decor

    • Add decoration to the walls and give your banquet some real personality by framing player jerseys in shadow boxes and hanging them along the walls. Or, get posters of famous olympic wrestlers and hang them on the walls. Drape crepe paper streamers in loops between frames to add more decoration.
