How to Do a Ball and Chain in Wrestling

In wrestling, whenever the competitors go to the ground, the man who gets into a dominant position behind his opponent scores a takedown and must attempt to control the other man and prevent his escape. At the same time, the top man must try to score points by turning the bottom man over to his back. The ball and chain is a technique that allows the top man to control the bottom man powerfully and also assists with turning an opponent to his back.

Instructions

    • 1

Break your opponent down to his belly.

    • 2

Work for a wrist and secure a two on one, which means grabbing one of your opponent's arms with both of your hands.

    • 3

Drive forward with your hips as you pull the two on one toward you, under your opponent's stomach. When you have his arm sucked in deep below his waist, release one of your hands from his arm, but keep the one on his wrist holding firm, to prevent him from moving his arm.

    • 4

Use your newly freed hand to come between his legs and grab the wrist of the restrained arm. Use this new grip to pull his arm back between his legs as far as possible. This is the ball and chain position.

    • 5

Attack your opponent with a half nelson, bringing an arm under his armpit and around his head, while keeping the ball and chain held tight. Since one of his arms is tied up in the ball and chain, it will be much easier to turn him over.
