Spray the cake pan, including the inner sides, with cooking spray.
-
3
Scoop out a cup of the blue batter. Pour it into the pan so it covers the bottom.
-
4
Pour a scoop of white batter on top of the blue. Alternate between the white and blue batter until you run out. Do not stir the two together.
-
5
Place in the oven and bake for the amount of time stated in the recipe.
-

Remove the baked cake from the oven. Set it aside to cool completely.
-
7

8
Spread white icing all over the cake. Smooth out the icing with an icing knife dipped in lukewarm water.
-
9
Place the cake topper or candy horseshoe onto the cake. It can sit anywhere you want.
-
10
Spell out the word "Colts" on the icing with the candy letters. You can add "Indianapolis," "Happy Birthday" or anything other saying you want to.
-
11
Scoop two cups of icing into a clean bowl. Add four drops of blue food coloring and stir until the icing turns blue. Cut the bottom corner of a zipper bag. Drop a star icing tip into the bag. Push the tip into the open corner, but not through it. Fill the bag with the blue icing. Close the bag.
-
12
Hold the bag with one hand just above the tip and the other on the upper portion of the bag a 1/2 inch above the edge of the cake. Using your hands, work the icing through the tip and onto the edge of the cake to create a border. You can also create a border where the bottom of the cake meets the cake board. Serve the cake.
