How to Repair an 820P Schwinn

Because of its low impact on bones and joints, walking and the use of treadmills is an exercise that many choose to engage in. Although Schwinn is known for making bicycles, the company also manufactures treadmills, such as the 820P. Even though the 820P has been phased out by the company and replaced with the 840, both are very similar in terms of function and repair techniques. If the Schwinn treadmill will not run or has other problems, there are a number of troubleshooting techniques that can be attempted at home before sending the unit out for repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure the treadmill is plugged firmly into a wall electrical outlet if there is no power.

    • 2

Unplug the treadmill from the wall socket and plug another item into it, such as a lamp, to test the plug. If the plug does not work, plug the treadmill into another outlet or locate the breaker for that outlet on the home breaker box and flip the breaker switch.

    • 3

Check the treadmill to make sure the safety key is plugged into the treadmill's console.

    • 4

Add silicon lubricant to the walking belt if the engine sounds strained. To do this, first unplug the machine and lift the belt up slightly. Apply the a few drops of silicon over the width of the deck beneath the belt. Turn the treadmill on and let it run for 30 seconds.

Adjust the belt tension if the belt starts to slip underneath your feet. To do this, start the treadmill and set the speed to three miles per hour. Use a 6-mm Allen wrench to turn the left and right tension bolts to the right until the belt stops slipping. You can find the tension bolts on the sides of the base of the treadmill at the back of the machine where you normally step onto the machine.
