How to Quiet a Squeaky Belt

To maintain a treadmill in good, working condition, keeping the belt lubricated and aligned is important to prevent permanent damage to the belt, platform and gears. Lubricating the belt can keep the belt aligned and reduce the friction between the belt and platform.

Instructions

    • 1

Power off the treadmill and unplug the power cord that is connecting the treadmill to the wall outlet.

    • 2

Locate the bolts on both sides of the treadmill belt and loosen the bolts with the appropriate-sized wrench. Loosening the bolts will allow you easily access the underside of the belt.

    • 3

Lift one side of the belt and apply a thin layer of treadmill lubricant in a left-to-right motion on the platform directly underneath the belt. Repeat the application on the other side of the belt, until each portion of the belt is covered by the lubricant.

    • 4

Tighten the bolts and power on the treadmill, to make sure the belt slips back into proper alignment. If it does not, loosen the bolts, align the belt and tighten the bolts again, until the belt is aligned securely.

    • 5

Allow the treadmill to run for two to three minutes to allow the lubricant to distribute across the entire platform. Wipe away excess lubricant that appears on the sides of the platform and towards the back end of the treadmill with a damp cloth.
