How to Troubleshoot a Proform 540S

Power Doesn't Turn On

Plug the power cord into a single-outlet surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded outlet.

Check that the magnetic safety key is fully inserted into the 540S console.

Locate the circuit breaker on the front of the treadmill next to the power cord. Check if the circuit button is protruding out from its recess. If it is, wait five minutes then press the button to reset the breaker.
Display Isn't Working

Remove the safety key and unplug your ProForm 540S. Lift the end of the walking deck. Hold the deck with your right hand and pull the latch knob out with your left hand. Push the walking deck until the latch knob aligns with the hold in the left handrail. Release the latch knob, making sure it locks into place.

Lower the treadmill to the ground so you can access the area under the motor. Remove the two 3/4-inch screws on the bottom of the treadmill. These screws hold the motor hood in place.

Lift the treadmill back up to a standing position. Pull the latch knob out and lower the deck back to the ground. Gently pull the hood cover off.

Find the reed switch and magnet on the left side of the front pulley. Turn the pulley until the magnet lines up with the reed switch. Measure the gap between the reed switch and the magnet. The gap should be 1/8 inch. If not, loosen the screw above the reed switch and adjust the switch so the gap is 1/8 inch. Tighten the screw.

Replace the motor hood and the 3/4-inch screws that hold the hood in place.
Center the Walking Belt

Remove the safety key and unplug your ProForm 540S.

Turn the left rear roller bolt, one-half turn, clockwise with the Allen wrench if the belt shifts to the left. Turn the left rear roller bolt, one-half turn, counterclockwise with the Allen wrench if the belt shifts to the right.

Plug in the treadmill and replace the safety key. Stand at the end of the unit and run the belt at a medium speed. If the belt still shifts to one side, repeat step 2.
