How to Tie a Kenpo Karate Belt

In Kenpo Karate your belt not only keeps your gi secure, but it also signifies your experience level. Because discipline is an important component to learning karate, you must know how to correctly tie your belt. Tying the belt may require some practice and concentration, but once you know how to do it, it will become like second-nature.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfurl the belt and place the center of the belt flatly against the front of your waist.

    • 2

Wrap the ends of the belt around your body completely so that they are now in front of you. Make sure that the belt is flat in the back and the ends are at even length.

    • 3

Take the end to your left and cross it over the end on your right, then tuck it under the belt where it lies at your waist. Pull it completely up so that it is tight.

    • 4

Cross the end of the belt that you have pulled up down over the belt at your waist.

    • 5

Wrap the other end of the belt over the end that you have just pulled down and then pull it down to create the knot. Grasp both ends of the belt and pull tightly, centering the knot at the middle of your stomach.
