How to Make the Palm of Your Hockey Gloves Soft

If you are wondering how to soften hockey gloves, you probably haven't bought a pair recently. "No matter the brand, all our gloves come pretty much game ready," says Andy Butka of Perani's Hockey World, a supplier of hockey equipment nationwide. Former Garden State Hockey School director Sammy Schneider (father of 20-year NHL veteran Mathieu Schneider) says basically the same thing. "Best way to break in hockey gloves is to use them," mused Schneider. However, there is still a segment of the hockey playing population that wants that game-worn feel instantly. There is one tried-and-true trick that will soften the palm of your glove.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a pan, or use a sink, and fill it with cold water.

    • 2

Immerse the gloves in the water. Leave them to soak overnight.

    • 3

Remove the gloves from the water. Let them dry completely before wearing. The drying out process is crucial to the success of the softening. Make sure you allow plenty of time to dry the gloves out, depending on what type of climate you live in.
