How to Troubleshoot NordicTrack Consoles

NordicTrack manufactures home cross country skiing exercise machines for skiers and exercise enthusiasts who want year-round cross country ski training. These machines are simple to use and provide a reliable training experience. However, as with any machinery, you will eventually run into problems. Fortunately, issues pertaining to the console usually have very simple solutions. Common problem associated with the console include faded console batteries, which affect only battery-powered consoles, or inaccurate display, which typically affect electric-powered consoles. Fixing either of these issues is relatively straightforward.

Instructions

  1. Battery-Powered Consoles

    • 1

Unplug the console and pulse monitor wires from the bottom of the console.

    • 2

Plug the console wire -- the coiled wire -- into the left jack on the bottom of the console, and plug the pulse monitor wire -- the wire with a finger pulse monitor attached to the end -- in the right jack.

    • 3

Turn on the console, and if it continue to malfunction or the image appears faded, the batteries need replacing.

    • 4

Slide the battery door, found on the back of the console, to the left, remove the old AA batteries and insert two new AA batteries.

    • 5

Slide the battery door back on to seal the batteries and turn on the console. It should now work perfectly.

    Electric-Powered Consoles

    • 6

Remove the start key from the console and unplug the unit's cord.

    • 7

Remove the two screws securing the hood to the front of the exercise machine using a slot screwdriver.

    • 8

Pry off the hood by inserting the slot screwdriver in-between the frame and the hood. Set the hood aside.

    • 9

Locate the reed switch and magnet found on the left side of the pulley. Slowly turn the pulley until the magnet is aligned with the reed switch and both are no more than an 1/8 inch apart.

    • 10

Reattach the hood, and turn on the machine. Allow the machine to run for at least five minutes to reset itself, and check the console for proper function.
