How to Troubleshoot Problems on a NordicTrack

NordicTrack cross-country ski exercise machines replicate a cross country skiing experience and improve your cardiovascular fitness, endurance and body tone. Problems with the NordicTrack machines are most commonly related to the fly wheel, which frequently needs tightening. Other issues can be related to the electronic display not working properly, the device making noise, and the skis slipping.

Instructions

    • 1

Tighten the flywheel if the flywheel, or the resistance strap, doesn't offer any resistance. Remove the U-bolt cover from the flywheel and evenly tighten the two ¼-inch nuts found on the right side of the flywheel.

    • 2

Change the batteries in the console if the display is faint. Slide the battery door on the back of the console to the left and open the door. Replace the two batteries there. Take a look at the wire that leads to the console and make sure it's plugged in, if there's no display at all.

Wipe any excess oil off the bottom of the skis if the skis slip. Use some mineral spirits to clean the skis with a soft cloth.

Make sure the order of the pulley assembly is correct if you've just assembled the Nordic Track and the arm cord makes excessive noise. It shouldn't screech. The assembly should be a 3/8-inch washer, spring, and resistance knob. Roughen the surface of the resistance pad with sandpaper and oil the leather pad with a couple of drops of oil, if the noise continues. Spread the oil around on the leather pad.
