How to Troubleshoot a Proform 900 Cardiocross Trainer

The 900 CardioCross Trainer is a compact, in-home elliptical machine with upper body exerciser arms. The console displays information about your workout such as speed, elapsed time, distance and approximate calories burned. It also offers six preset programs that control the pedal resistance and prompt you to change your pedal speed. You can check your heart rate with the built-in pulse sensors on the handlebars. If you have any difficulty with the console, the pulse sensors or the pedals slipping, you can troubleshoot these problems yourself.

Instructions

  1. Console Dims

    • 1

Change the batteries if the console dims and is difficult to read. It runs on four D batteries.

    • 2

Open the battery cover on the back of the console by pressing the tab and lifting the cover.

    • 3

Slide in the bottom two batteries with the positive (+) end facing right and slide in the top two batteries with the positive end facing left.

    • 4

      Replace the battery cover.

Pulse Sensors Not Reading Heart Rate

    • 5

Grab the pulse sensors, but do not grip them too hard. Don't move your hands.

    • 6

Hold the sensors for at least 15 seconds.

    • 7

Clean the metal contacts with a dry, soft cloth.

    Console Displays Incorrect Information

    • 8

Use a screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the right pedal onto the axle. Determine right from left from the position you are in when you're using the 900 CardioCross Trainer. Remove the four screws from the right pedal disc. Pull the disc off the machine and set it aside.

    • 9

Remove eight screws from the right side shield, the large plastic piece that makes up the frame around the flywheel mechanism. Pull off the right side shield. Repeat on the left side and remove the left side shield.

    • 10

Locate the reed switch, a small cylindrical part with a magnet next to it on the left side of the machine. Loosen the screw below the reed switch. Slide the reed switch around then spin the left pedal disc. Observe the console to see if it displays correctly. If not, repeat this step until it does display correctly.

    • 11

Reattach the side shields, right pedal disc and the right pedal.

Pedals Slip When Using the Trainer

    • 12

Remove eight screws from each side shield. Pull both side shields off the machine.

    • 13

Locate and loosen the flat head screw on the right side of the flywheel mechanism.

    • 14

Turn the bolt beneath the flat head screw to the right until the belt is tight.

    • 15

Tighten the flat head screw and reattach the side shields.
