Cleaning Instructions for the Kel-Tec P-11

Kel-Tec guns are known for their thin, lightweight and simple design. The P-11 is a popular choice for a backup gun among police officers. It is small, but still holds 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition in each magazine. Cleaning a Kel-Tec gun is similar to cleaning any other handgun. Basic cleaning can be done without disassembly, but for detailed cleaning the slide and barrel should be removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble the P-11. Lock the slide back and pop the assembly pin out the left side of the gun. The pin is located above the trigger at the base of the slide. It can be removed using a knife or other flat tool. Allow the slide to move forward off the frame. Pull down to remove the recoil spring, guide rod and barrel from the underside of the slide.

    • 2

Clean the barrel. Use a cleaning rod with cotton patches soaked in solvent. Drive the rod through the barrel several times. Then replace the soaked patches with dry ones and repeat this process. Use patches and solvent to clean the barrel ramp and the chamber, as well as the muzzle and the exterior of the barrel. Dry all surfaces with a cotton patch.

Clean all metal surfaces of the gun. Apply a small amount of solvent to metal surfaces of the gun, including the slide, springs, extractor, slide rail and internal frame. Use the cleaning brush to scrub these surfaces and any other area of the gun that has been exposed to lead or burnt gun powder. Use clean patches to dry all surfaces of the gun before reassembly.

Reassemble the gun. Repeat the process from Step 1 in reverse order to put the gun back together.
