How to Perform a Perfect Gutwrench Powerbomb

A perfectly executed gutwrench powerbomb can be a strong finisher to a professional wrestling match. A favorite of WWE athletes like Jack Swagger, this variation of the traditional powerbomb is slightly more difficult to pull off because of the angle. Take note that this and any other professional wrestling move should only be performed under controlled circumstances on a heavily padded surface. Go slowly when first learning to perform a gutwrench powerbomb and practice good form to avoid injuring your partner.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand facing your opponent, who should also be in an upright position.

    • 2

Bend your opponent forward at the waist on your dominant side. For example, if you are right handed, your opponent should end up bent forward on your right side.

    • 3

Curl your right arm under your opponent's waist and lock both your hands together. Squeeze tightly so that he can't wriggle out, but not so tightly that it becomes a submission hold.

    • 4

Bend your knees as you lift your opponent off the ground and onto your right shoulder. Stand up straight, keeping your right arm wrapped around his waist while supporting his back with your left hand. The longer you hold him up there, the more impressive the move looks. You can even turn around showing your prone opponent to the crowd on all sides of the ring.

    • 5

Throw your opponent back-first toward the mat. Make sure he lands on his shoulder blades to distribute the impact across his back and to avoid injuring his head or neck.
